Earlier this month, Insight@UCC hosted a seminar about biobanking in which the European biobanking infrastructure BBMRI-ERIC laid out the case for Ireland becoming a member. The seminar was the starting point for a feature in today’s Irish Times about biobanking. The article explores what biobanking is, the research developments happening as a result of biobanking and director of Insight@NUI Galway Prof Dietrich Rebholz-Schuhmann spoke about the interface between medicine and data. “Ireland must take a role in biobank research: there is lot of data integration involved and we have the data analytics capacity here that we can bring to biological research,” he says.
