BBMRI-ERIC brings together the expertise of many disciplines in order to operate the pan-European research infrastructure for biobanks and biomolecular resources for the benefit of health research and ultimately for the benefit of the European citizens.
Excellence in research as well as further innovations in life-science industry will strongly depend on efficient and secure transnational access to human biological samples with known specification and associated medical information for both academia and industry.
Human biological samples and data are a finite key resource subject to a series of ethical and legal restrictions, which means that innovative solutions for their efficient utilization are needed. By performing the primary analysis of biological samples under internationally standardised conditions in a pre-competitive environment, two major goals are addressed:
1. Providing access to primary data that can more easily be shared in contrast to biological samples
2. Providing high-quality information from biological samples to industry for further product development.
Essentially, these are the two major goals that are intended to be achieved by ‘BBMRI-ERIC associated Expert Centres – Trusted Partners’.
In order to foster the excellence of transnational research collaborations, BBMRI-ERIC provides a rationale summary and evaluation criteria for candidates who apply for the status of ‘BBMRI-ERIC associated Expert Centres – Trusted Partners’,
Additionally, BBMRI-ERIC will give consultative support in every stage of the application process, until the assessment process begins.
