A two-day national forum “Biomedical research infrastructures – drivers of the genome and personalised medicine in Bulgaria” was held on 9th and 10th of December in Sofia.
Prof. Radka Kaneva, coordinator of the BBMRI National Node, and Head of Molecular Medicine Center at Medical University of Sofia, moderated the meeting. It was organised by the National University Complex of Biomedical and Translational Research (NUCBTR), part of which is BBMRI.bg.
The forum gathered more than 100 representatives of all medical universities and faculties in Bulgaria, other research infrastructures in the biomedical field and the Ministry of Education and Science.
During the first day BBMRI.bg, as well as the other core facilities of NUCBTR, presented alongside profiling new projects related to the 1+MG initiative and the “Genome of Europe” project.
Medical University of Sofia and The Ministry of Education and Health are participating in the new European project for the establishment of Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI). The Ministry of Education and Science provides the national co-funding in the frame of the national road map of research infrastructure, also supporting BBMRI.bg.
A round table discussion with the representatives of Ministry of Education and Science, rectors and vice-rectors of all medical universities in Bulgaria was organised during the second day. The prospects for building a national network between the research medical universities was discussed, as well as the enlargement of the BBMRI.bg network and the implementation of the “Genome of Bulgaria” project.
The initiative aims to support potential research and innovation and foster the participation of Bulgarian scientists and research organisations in the European Research Area.
