BBMRI offering support and creating connections

At BBMRI-ERIC, the health and safety of our staff is a top priority. The past two years of the COVID-19 pandemic have required patience, flexibility, and adaptation on all sides.

BBMRI has streamlined its management processes and partially restructured the Headquarters operations to meet these challenges. Our goal is to create a great working environment so that BBMRI-ERIC staff can further advance scientifically and contribute substantially to the growth of the biomedical sciences.

Our Philosophy

We believe in work-life balance

At BBMRI-ERIC, we believe in the importance of our work – but not at the expense of our well-being. Our flexible working hours allow us to pick up our kids from school, compensate for our travel schedules, or work from home on occasion. As a publicly funded institution, BBMRI-ERIC staff consider both ecological and economic factors when travelling for work.

We hire talented professionals and trust them to get their work done without someone looking over their shoulder. We believe that people are the most productive when they have some control over their schedules – and our staff say this mindset is a huge asset to working at BBMRI.

We believe in taking care of our staff

In addition to Austrian holidays and paid leave, our staff receive a benefits package that includes private health insurance and a private pension scheme (RESAVER). Staff can take their pension with them if they move elsewhere in Europe, which is a huge advantage for our internationally minded team.

Our Headquarters is based in a modern building on the Medical University Graz campus, a dynamic area of Graz with excellent public transportation connections. A parking garage is also found nearby. Several local restaurants, a bakery, a grocery store, a post office, and a household goods store fulfill the culinary and shopping needs of the medical professionals, researchers, and staff working in the area.

We believe in supporting sustainability

We are taking every step possible to reduce the carbon footprint of BBMRI-ERIC and this includes our sustainable travel policy. Where possible, we utilise technologies that enable remote access to workshops and meetings. If travel is required, we choose the least environmentally damaging options.

We are mindful that BBMRI-ERIC is a publicly funded organisation, and all travel is organised from both an ecological and economical point of view. Our headquarters in Graz is based in a newly constructed ‘intelligent building’ that makes use of the latest energy efficient technologies.

We believe in spreading our wings

BBMRI-ERIC has National Nodes in 20 member and five observer states, hosts the annual Europe Biobank Week Congress, and participates in several EU H2020/Horizon Europe projects. For these reasons, staff attend meetings across the European continent and beyond, giving them frequent opportunities to network with professionals around the world.

The website was co-funded within ADOPT BBMRI-ERIC, a project that has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 676550.
