In November, the Institute for Clinical and Preventive Medicine at the University of Latvia received a grant from the Latvian Council of Science for a project titled “Ethically and socially responsible governance of research biobanks in Latvia: analysis of opinions of public, donors and researchers”. With the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre on board as a partner, the project will start in 2019 and last two years.
Its overall aim is to contribute to ethically and socially responsible governance of research biobanks in Latvia by analysing attitudes, concerns, and the needs of the general public, donors and researchers alike. The project will also aim at improving the governance of research biobanks and promoting evidence based public policy decisions by developing written recommendations based on the results of the study.
