In March 2018, ISBER and BBMRI-ERIC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) strengthening the collaboration between the two organisations.
The idea to consolidate the relationship between the two organisations stems from the success of Global Biobank Week, the first biobanking event on a global scale co-organised by the three major biobanking organisations (BBMRI-ERIC, ISBER, and ESBB).

The MoU aims at maintaining maximum cooperation with related organisations, streamlining rights and duties for both parties and establishing a framework of trust, collaboration, and fairness that will help to implement new joint initiatives.
A particular emphasis has been placed on communication: both organisations recognise the need to jointly raise awareness on biobanking achievements and their role in unlocking the potential of personalised medicine.
The MoU has entered into force in March 2018.
