As of May 1, 2017, eleven German biobanks will be joining forces in the German Biobank Alliance in order to build a network of biobanks supporting research projects with biomaterials of comparable quality and with harmonised medical information.
The German Biobank Alliance was initiated by the German Biobank Node (GBN), which is the central cooperation platform for the German biobank community. Under the umbrella of GBN, eleven government-funded biobank sites and two IT development centres are working together in the German Biobank Alliance to make existing biomaterials of various biobanks available across Europe for biomedical research.
The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) will fund the German Biobank Alliance with 14.4 million Euros until 2020. Read the current GBN newsletter for more details.
